FEBRUARY – APRIL CENTRE REPORT PRESENTED TO THE DIRECTOR OF CHURCH LIFE AND NURTURE, GENERAL ASSEMBLY OFFICE, ACCRA

PREAMBLE:

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Phil 4:12-13 NIV.

As beginners, we have started within much privation, nevertheless, with much hope and enthusiasm, knowing that He who is our strength will not allow our failure, for He is our strength in whom we are able to do all things. Since our last report, we have achieved quite a little feat; however there is much hope for more advancement.

RENOVATIONS

Finishing touches are still being put on the Director‘s home. A gutter has been constructed on the outside to protect the walls and to prevent water from entering the house through the main gate. Trap doors would soon be fitted to the doors. Generally there are a few electrical fittings to be completed. Painting work has started in the Dormitories.

COMMUNAL WORKS

A section of the Presbytery Youth led by the Youth Superintendent helped the Centre in a communal work on 21st April, 2012. They cleared the compound of weeds and did some painting in some of the Dormitories. Similar communal works also took place previously by the Manyakpongunor and St. Andrews congregations on 24th Dec. 2011 and by the Manyakpongunor District Youth on 28th January, 2012. Pardon us for missing these activities in the previous report. We are grateful to them all.

FURNISHING

We are grateful to God for giving us a set of office furniture for the Director‘s office and the secretary‘s office through an Old Bana boy, Mr. Winfred Osei Owusu. Though, the things have arrived and have been fixed in our office, Mr. Owusu is yet to find time to officially present them to the Centre, however, we find it expedient to present them in this report. We are sincerely grateful to him. By our estimates for our office this year, we are now left with a cabinet, a computer and printer and we hope to have them soon by God‘s grace.

We are in the process of providing the immediate necessary furniture for the Director‘s home within the next two weeks after which the Director can safely move on to the Mountain with his family.

CENTRE ACTIVITIES

By God‘s grace, the Centre was able to run successfully her first Catechists‘ Foundation Course from Sunday April 28th to Saturday May 5th. Thirteen (13) candidates participated. Their examination took place on the last day, Saturday, 5th May. The papers have so far been marked and all have qualified to enter for Foundation One except two persons who were referred in Mission and Spirituality. They would be given the opportunity to rewrite soon before the Basic 1 is started.

We are planning to run a second Foundation course from 10th to 16th June, 2012 to be followed by the Youth, YAF and Liturgy Leaders from 8th to 14th July. The Basic 1 shall take place from July 29th to August 18th 2012.

The Centre also hosted the retreat of the Gospel Light Church of Atimpoku from 13th – 17th April and 35 Catechists of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery Catechists‘ Conference from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th May 2012.

BENEVOLENCE

The Centre has been blessed by God through the following people and their donations

  1. Mr. Kofi Tetteh, an Old boy – GH¢100
  2. Mr. Michael Teye Nyaunu, MP for Lower Manya Constituency and an Old boy – 20 pieces of cutlasses. We are in the process of having him install security lights at the Centre for us.
  3. Mr. Winfred Osei Owusu – 2 sets of Office furniture for the Director‘s Office and the Secretary‘s Office
  4. Others – some Districts and churches donated some bags of cement to pave the very bad portions of the road. We are grateful to everyone.

PROJETIONS

  • We hope to have the Board of Directors of the Centre inaugurated by July this year
  • We hope to consecrate our first graduate catechists by 2014 and follow each year with subsequent years.
  • We hope to pave the very bad portions with concrete by the end of December 2012
  • To work towards having a children‘s department by 2015
  • To begin mobile courses for Presbyters and other church leaders by 2013
  • Complete administrator‘s office renovation by September 2012
  • Push for the engagement of an administrator and a driver for the Centre any sooner this year.
  • Complete at least two staff accommodation renovation by September 2012
  • Complete classroom renovation by Dec. 2013
  • To build and complete Centre kitchen facility by 2014
  • To reinstall rain harvest system by December 2012
  • To have land title deeds regularized by 2015
  • To have an additional hostel facility by 2015
